Description

Lloyds Bank is a bank building constructed in 1864, with minor alterations made in the 20th century. It is made of gault brick with ashlar dressings and features a low slate roof behind a parapet. The exterior consists of three storeys and a six-bay front, which includes an ashlar plinth, vermiculated ashlar rustication on the ground floor, sill bands, a heavy stone cornice, moulded balusters, and stone panels at the parapet. There are partly external wall stacks with dentilled stone courses.

On the left side, there is a doorway with an elliptical arched head, featuring a heavy console keystone dated 1864. Above the door is a carved stone panel with the inscription 'Bank'. The 20th-century door is flanked by detached columns with foliate capitals, and the door area is decorated with guilloche, oak leaf, and bay leaf carvings. To the right of the door, there are five plain sash windows with carved keystones, one of which has been deepened to accommodate an automatic teller. The first floor has five plain sash windows with moulded surrounds on tabs and cornices, while the top floor features five smaller windows on tabs without cornices. The north front facing Paradise Row has two storeys and four bays, and is also dated 1864.

The bank was originally built for the local Garfit and Claypon's bank when it relocated from its original site on High Street in 1864. The interior has not been inspected.
