Description
No. 26 Guildhall Street is a shop with offices above, dating from around 1840, and may have been a remodelling of an earlier building. It is constructed of brick with stucco dressings and features a copper roof with two side wall stacks, designed in the Italianate style. The building has four storeys and five bays.
Notable exterior features include a first-floor sill band supported by brackets, a moulded second-floor band, quoins, modillion eaves, and a plain parapet. The full-width late 20th-century shopfront has rendered pilasters, a near-central door, and splayed flanking windows. To the left of the shopfront is a plain doorway. Above this, there are five plain and margin light sash windows arranged in a 1/3/1 pattern, each with round-headed surrounds and pilasters. The rightmost window has been replaced by a late 19th-century canted oriel window. Above these, there are four margin light sashes and a plain sash to the right, all featuring cornices. At the top, there are four glazing bar sashes and a plain sash to the right, with eared architraves. The interior has not been inspected.
