Description

The Post Office, located on Guildhall Street in Lincoln, was built in 1906 by W.T. Oldrieve for Her Majesty's Office of Works. This building is constructed of brick with a terracotta front and dressings, topped with slate roofs that feature two coped and buttressed gable stacks. It is designed in the Renaissance Revival style.

The structure has a plinth, a moulded sill band, a second floor sill band, and shouldered coped gabled dormers, along with moulded coped gables. It stands two storeys plus attics and consists of six bays. The windows are casements with terracotta mullions and transoms. The central five-light window is flanked by single doorways that have mullioned overlights and pilasters adorned with winged lions. To the left, there are two three-light windows, and to the right, a five-light window, all featuring cornices. Above these, six three-light windows with arched cornices can be found. Additionally, there are six gabled dormers with pilasters, each containing three-light windows and cartouches in the aprons and heads. The rear elevation is double gabled and primarily features cross casements.

The interior of the building was refitted in the mid-20th century.
