Description

Flint Cottages is a row of six cottages built around 1800, with some alterations. The cottages are constructed from knapped flint with red brick dressings, and the gable walls are made of brick that has been rendered. The rear wall features tarred weather-boarding, and the roof is covered with slate. Each cottage has a rectangular double-depth plan and is single-fronted, standing two storeys high with cellars.

The symmetrical facade consists of six bays, with doorways located at the ends for Nos. 1 and 6, and paired doorways for Nos. 2 and 3, as well as Nos. 4 and 5. The first three cottages have altered porches and doors, while the latter two feature light wooden gabled porches, which are mostly in disrepair. Nos. 5 and 6 have flush-panelled doors.

Ground floor windows are flat-arched 3-light casements, with Nos. 5 and 6 having openings in the centre light, while the others have been variously altered. The first-floor windows are 2-light casements, with horizontal glazing bars present in Nos. 4, 5, and 6, though the others have been altered. Each cottage has a low cellar window, and all openings are surrounded by brick. The eaves project, and the roof has three ridge chimney stacks. The weather-boarded rear wall mainly features 2-light casements and includes three small single-storey extensions, which are not of special interest. The interiors have not been inspected.
