Description
The Cottage is a timber-frame cottage, likely dating from the early 18th century, and subsequently altered and restored. The timber frame is painted black, with brick nogging painted white at the front and black at the rear, which has a flint plinth. The roof is red pantile, and there is a brick chimney. The cottage has a single-depth, two-unit plan, with a lean-to added to the right-hand end. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The exposed timber framing consists of light scantling, including corner posts, a central wall post, mid rails, studs, and intermediate rails. A doorway, offset to the left of centre, has a board door with a simple pitched canopy. Each floor has two square, two-light casement windows with cross glazing bars. A full-height weather-boarded lean-to is located at the right-hand gable, and a large external chimney stack with offsets is positioned at the left-hand gable. The rear elevation has a high flint plinth at ground floor (likely formerly back-to-earth), and contains a single-light window on the first floor, which appears to have been inserted later. The interior was not inspected.
