Description

This cottage, formerly known as Leys Cottage, dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof with a stone ridge stack and a right end stack. The building has a three-unit through-passage plan and is one storey high with an attic, presenting a two-window range.

The front has timber lintels above a 19th-century plank door that is topped by a gabled hood, as well as above two late 19th-century gabled half dormers. At the rear, there is a chamfered timber lintel over another plank door, and a mid-19th-century outshut is located to the rear left. Inside, the passage has a stone-flag floor, and there are stop-chamfered beams with stop-chamfered joists in the central room. The interior also includes 17th-century ribbed doors, one of which leads to winder stairs on the left side of the passage. Additionally, there are plank cupboard doors with H-L hinges covering a blocked window opening in the front wall. The first floor has not been inspected but is likely to have features of interest.
