Description
The Homestead is a late 17th and early 18th century farmhouse, though it was refronted in the late 19th century. It is built of coursed limestone rubble, with a gabled stone slate roof and a stone ridge stack. The house has a two-unit lobby-entry plan with a cross wing to the right. It has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. The central C20 door has a late 19th century timber porch, and the windows are mostly late 19th century three-light casements, with three gabled roof dormers. The two-storey cross wing also features late 19th century casements. A mid-19th century outshut is located at the rear. The interior, which was not inspected, is noted to have stop-chamfered beams with run-out stops.
Behind the cross wing stands an 18th century barn built of similar materials. It features two threshing floors, plank double doors to the left, a plank winnowing door, and a further double-entry with plank double doors to the right. The barn has a collar-truss roof with butt purlins. An outbuilding, to the left of the front of the house, is also from the 18th century and was formerly a stable and granary. It is built of similar materials and is single-storey with a loft. The outbuilding has a blocked front door, a plank stable door with stone steps leading to an old plank granary door on the left side, and an interior with old beams and a collar-truss roof.
