Description
This is an 18th-century farmhouse with earlier origins, incorporating elements from the late 16th and early 17th century, and with a refronting and rear block added in the early 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed from roughly-coursed limestone rubble, with more regularly squared and coursed stone to the front, and has a gabled stone slate roof. Large stone ashlar stacks sit at the ends of the building. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with a further wing at the rear right. It has two storeys and an attic, originally with a four-window front. Late 19th and 20th-century three-light casement windows are set beneath chamfered timber lintels. The rear wing is built of similar materials, featuring old timber lintels and a stone-coped gable. A further early 19th-century range sits to the rear left, constructed of similar materials and containing a 20th-century door set within a stone porch. The interior retains original features including chamfered beams. One beam in a room to the left has a late 16th or early 17th-century chamfer with a run-out stop. There is an early 19th-century dog-leg staircase with winders, stick balusters, and fret-cut brackets. The roof is supported by collar trusses with butt purlins. A tall limestone rubble wall, topped with stone coping, extends approximately 12 metres from the front right of the property, and adjoins The Cottage.
