Description
Ibstock Close is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century, was enlarged around 1900, and altered in the early 20th century. The building is constructed from marlstone ashlar and coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, topped with Stonesfield-slate roofs and ashlar stacks. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it has been extended to four units and further enlarged.
The house is two storeys plus an attic, featuring a three-window ashlar front on the earliest range. This front has a central doorway beneath a three-light stone-mullioned window, flanked by two-storey canted six-light mullioned and transomed bay windows in the outer bays. Above these are gables with stone-mullioned attic windows. Most of these features are likely from the 20th century, except for a re-set datestone above the door that reads 1630 in strapwork decoration.
To the left of the main front are two additional bays in rubble with renewed three-light stone-mullioned windows. The right gable wall retains original three-light mullioned windows on three floors, with one similar window at the rear. The majority of the rear consists of later extensions, and some gables feature stone parapets. The interior has not been inspected. Notably, the house served as the vicarage from 1880 for a period.
