Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-17th century, with later 17th-century and 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed squared marlstone with limestone dressings, and rubble with wooden lintels. The roofs are slate, using Stonesfield slate, Welsh slate, and artificial stone slates, with ashlar and brick stacks. The house has an L-shaped plan, with a section being an infilled space. The front of the house is three bays wide, dating to the late 17th century, featuring a chamfered plinth and a moulded wooden eaves cove. A six-panel door is centrally positioned, sheltered by a flat-panelled canopy. The ground floor has a continuous moulded string linking the heads of the windows, with pairs of stone-mullioned windows with transoms to the right and larger three-light windows with renewed wooden mullions and transoms to the left. The first floor features rectangular stone panels containing moulded ovals, likely intended for plaster or terracotta reliefs, to the extreme left and right, and a similar panel is present on the return wall. Small windows with chamfered stone surrounds are located on both end walls, with gable parapets featuring projecting kneelers and triangular copings with an apex roll. The right gable stack retains a pair of ashlar diagonal shafts. A long rear wing, probably of earlier origin, extends from the left end and features casements with heavy stop-chamfered lintels. A lower granary bay at the end has a 3-row gable dovecote and an external stone stair. A parallel range was added in the 19th century, constructed of coursed limestone rubble with flat arches. The interior of the main range features panelled doors and shutters, all dating back to around 1800.
