Description

Acacia Cottage is a small house, likely dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and the 19th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and has a concrete plain-tile roof with a gable stack made of rubble and brick. The house originally had a two-unit through-passage plan. It is two storeys high with a three-window front. The front includes a 6-panel door beneath a central round window, and four-pane sashes in the outer bays. A "Farmers Fire and Life" insurance plaque is located to the right of the round window. The roof has been slightly raised at the eaves but retains gable parapets. A single-storey rubble range from the 19th century is located to the left; it was formerly the village reading room.

Inside, features include a chamfered spine beam, a large inglenook fireplace, a winder stair, an 18th-century arched panelled cupboard, and an old plank rear door with a fleur-de-lys hinge. It is believed to be the site of the manor house of the Marten family.
