Description

Orchard Lea House is a house that likely originated in the 17th century, was extended in the early 18th century, and remodeled in the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from limestone and marlstone rubble with some banding and marlstone dressings, topped with Stonesfield-slate and Welsh-slate roofs. The building features two parallel ranges plus a service range, standing two storeys high with an attic.

The front of the house has three windows and is made of banded squared rubble with marlstone-ashlar dressings, likely dating from the mid to late 18th century on a 17th-century base. It includes a central six-panel door beneath a two-light window, both with flat arches and projecting keyblocks. The outer bays contain three-light casements with lintels. All windows have 20th-century casements, and the right window on the ground floor has been modified into a rectangular bay.

To the left, there is a single-storey range with 12-pane sashes, one of which is an early 18th-century window with thick bars, flanking a panelled door. The symmetrical garden front, which is at a lower level, features a three-window arrangement with a storey band, flat arches, banding, and large quoins around the first-floor windows, all in marlstone rubble. The lower sashes flanking the doorway are early 18th-century with thick glazing bars, while the taller sashes above are likely from the mid to late 18th century. Both roofs have stone gable parapets.

Inside, the house contains several 18th-century pine fireplaces and panelled dados, as well as an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters.
