Description

Cedar Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, with extensions made in the 20th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and features wooden lintels, topped with a thatched roof and rubble and brick stacks. The original two-unit plan has been expanded to three units, along with later additions. The cottage is one storey plus an attic.

The front of the house has three windows, with the left two bays being the earlier sections. These bays include a central rounded projection for a bread oven, located to the left of the entrance. Both bays have renewed two-light casement windows on the ground floor and 18th-century leaded three-light half dormers. The 18th-century rubble bay to the right also has a similar renewed dormer and features a gable parapet. The gable stacks are made of brick, while the stack aligned with the oven is made of rubble.

At the rear, there is a rounded stair projection in line with the rubble stack, which retains an old window. A two-storey thatched rear wing, added in the 20th century, extends from the right end of the cottage. Inside, the cottage features stop-chamfered beams, one of which has barred stops, along with two open fireplaces—one of which is very large with inglenooks and the bread oven—and a spiral stair.
