Description
The Old School House is a building that was originally a school house and is now a residential property. It likely dates from the early 18th century, with extensions added in the late 18th to early 19th century and the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed squared marlstone and limestone rubble, featuring wooden lintels, and has a Stonesfield-slate roof with brick gable stacks.
Originally designed as a single-unit plan, it has been enlarged to two units, with a later rear wing added. The building stands two storeys tall. The front of the earlier marlstone section has, on the first floor, leaded 2-light casements flanking a blocked window. On the ground floor, there is a central casement, with the entrance to the right and a small window to the left that has a chamfered ashlar surround. To the right is an added lower limestone bay, which is set back and features a 2-light casement above a sash window that is five panes wide. Both end gables have stacks, and there is a 20th-century wing at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
