Description
Canterbury House is a rectory that was built in 1832 and has since been extended. The building is constructed from coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings, some of which are limestone, and features a Welsh-slate roof with ashlar stacks. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall. The symmetrical front, which faces the garden, has four windows with 12-pane sashes, larger on the ground floor, all featuring limestone quoins and flat arches, while other dressings are in marlstone. The shallow-pitched hipped roof has projecting eaves with plastered soffits and flanking stacks. The right side of the building has four additional sashes and includes the entrance, which features a 6-panel door, a fanlight, and a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets. The left side and rear of the house have small 19th-century extensions. Inside, there is a wide staircase with a stick balustrade and a mahogany handrail, along with contemporary fireplaces in the principal rooms.
