Description
Old Toms is a house dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, constructed from limestone rubble, some of which is banded, and features wooden lintels. It has a thatched roof with rubble-and-brick stacks. The building has a two-unit plan with an added third unit and a rear wing, and it is one storey plus an attic.
The front of the house has three bays, with the left two bays being older. These bays contain three-light casements on both floors: in the first bay, there is a leaded 18th-century casement above a 20th-century window next to the entrance; in the second bay, there is a leaded 17th-century wood-mullioned window above a leaded 18th-century casement that has a stop-chamfered lintel. The third bay, made of coursed squared rubble banded with marlstone, has renewed windows. All first-floor windows are half dormers. The roof features rubble-based stacks located to the left of the center and at the right gable.
At the rear, there are additional renewed casements and dormers, along with a 16-pane sash window in the 18th-century bay. The rear wing extends from the left end and includes an external stone stair leading to the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
