Description
Staithe Cottage is a house dating from the 17th and early 18th centuries, with extensions from the 18th century and alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed from marlstone and limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and has a Stonesfield-slate roof with ashlar stacks. The house has a three-unit plan, with a rear wing that was formerly subdivided. The front has six windows, with a central doorway beneath a two-light casement window. Two-light casement windows are arranged in pairs at both floors, and a further similar window is set to the extreme left at first floor level. The entrance bay and bays to the left are likely older, as these retain stop-chamfered lintels, although all casement windows are 20th-century replacements. The roof has gable parapets and stacks near both gables. The rear of the house has additional casement windows and some 20th-century alterations. The short rear wing is largely rebuilt in the 20th century. The interior was not inspected.
