Description
Grange Cottage is a house dating from the mid 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is constructed of limestone rubble with dressings in marlstone ashlar, and has a Stonesfield-slate roof with stone-and-brick stacks. The house has a three-unit plan, with a lower rear wing returning from the left side.
The front of the house has three bays and two storeys plus an attic. The windows on the first floor are leaded, three-light stone-mullioned windows with labels. The ground floor windows in the outer bays are likely 19th century, being deep four-light mullioned windows. Smaller windows flanking the central doorway are also likely from the 19th century. The doorway has a moulded stone surround and an open wooden porch. The second floor, which has been raised, has three-light casements within stone-gabled half dormers. The roof has gable parapets with projecting shaped kneelers. There are three gable stacks: a triple-shafted stack to the left, a double-shafted stack to the right, and a single-shafted stack to the left of centre, all with stone plinths. The tall rear windows are probably 19th or 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
