Description
Up The Steps is a 17th-century house constructed from limestone and marlstone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings. It has a concrete plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The house follows a two-unit through-passage plan and consists of one storey plus an attic. The front facade has a regular arrangement of three windows, with a central plank door. To the right is a three-light window, and to the left is a four-light window, both of which have renewed mullions and surrounds but retain their original labels. The first floor features unaltered mullioned windows with three, two, and three lights in stone-gabled half dormers. The roof includes stacks on the right gable and to the left of center, along with an added stack on the left gable. A rounded bread-oven projection is present on the right gable wall. The rear of the house has a rounded stair projection with a small leaded wood-mullioned window and a small leaded casement. There are also small 20th-century extensions to the left and rear. Inside, there is a large inglenook fireplace that backs onto the passage and a second open fireplace. A spiral stair leads to the rear of the central stack.
