Description

This milestone, located approximately 250 meters west of The Masons Arms, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a cast-iron plate. The tall, tapering slab has a rounded top and is inscribed with the distances to Chipping Norton (5 miles) and Banbury (7 and three-quarters miles). The Burford to Banbury road was turnpiked in 1770.
