Description

Ley Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, likely dating to the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with additions from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared marlstone with Welsh-slate and Stonesfield-slate roofs and rebuilt gable stacks. The house has a T-shaped layout. The symmetrical three-window front features a round-arched doorway within a lattice porch, incorporating a keyblock, a leaded fanlight, and a four-panel door. Above the doorway is a segmental-arched two-light casement window with a projecting keyblock. The outer bays on the front have three-light casement windows, each with a flat arch and a projecting keyblock. The long, three-window rear wing probably originated as a two-unit house and retains two old leaded casement windows, a plank door, and a projecting rounded bread-oven on the gable wall. The gable parapets have projecting moulded kneelers. Inside the rear wing is a very large open fireplace. This building possesses group value.
