Description
The Masons Arms Public House is a public house built in 1831, as indicated by a datestone. It features a combination of marlstone ashlar and coursed squared rubble, topped with a Welsh-slate roof and a brick gable stack. The building is designed in an L-shape and consists of two storeys.
The ashlar front has a prominent central section that is higher than the flanking sections, featuring three windows, pilasters, a storey band, and a triangular pediment. This pediment contains a limestone relief with arms and the date. The middle bay projects forward and has a smaller pediment above a first-floor window, along with an added shallow-gabled ashlar porch that has a cambered archway. This porch shelters a doorway with a blind tympanum and a door made of radiating planks. The outer two bays are fitted with 20th-century casements, except for the left side of the door, which has a 16-pane sash window flanked by narrow inserted sashes.
To the left of the central section is a lower bay with a pediment that features a three-centre arched doorway in a projecting surround. On the extreme left, there is the end of a hipped-roofed range that returns to the rear, which has a three-centre arched carriage entrance with a keyblock, now converted into a window. To the right of the central section is a corresponding bay without a pediment, where the projecting door surround extends up to the eaves, and its right end has a gable parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
