Description

This milestone, located on the west side of Faringdon Road in Cumnor, dates from the 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a stepped base. The inscription on the milestone indicates the distances to Oxford (4 miles) and Faringdon (13 miles). The road was turnpiked in 1733, which is noted in the Oxfordshire Museums Information Sheet No. 5 from 1977.
