Description

This milestone, located on the west side of Oxford Road in Kennington, dates from the early 19th century. Made of granite, it is inscribed with the distances to Oxford and Abingdon, both marked as 3 miles. The road itself was turnpiked in 1736, indicating its historical significance in the development of local transport.
