Description

Sunningwell House is a farmhouse, now a house, built in the early 18th century and remodelled in the mid-19th century. The front features a right bay made of 19th-century Flemish bond brick with some flared headers, while the bays to the left are constructed with flared header bond brick and orange brick dressings. The left side and rear are made of limestone rubble with brick quoins and stone quoins on the right. The building has a gabled old tile roof, with a brick stack at the right end and a rear lateral stack. It is L-shaped with a rear right wing, standing two storeys high with an attic and a four-window range. There is a segmental arch over a 20th-century door to the right of a blocked door, along with 19th-century inserted window openings featuring 20th-century windows. The first floor has three mid to late 19th-century cross windows. The house has a raised storey band and dentilled eaves, along with two 19th-century roof dormers. The later 18th-century rear left wing is made of limestone rubble with brick dressings and features a reset medieval head corbel. Inside, there is a segmental brick arch over an open fireplace to the right and chamfered beams. The first floor has not been inspected. The house is included for its group value.
