Description
Yew Cottage is a house that dates back to the late medieval period, with remodels in the 17th century and alterations and extensions made in the 1970s. The building features cruck framing and is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, topped with a gabled thatch roof and a ridge stack made of stone finished in brick. It was originally a hall house, with a floor and stack added in the 17th century. The cottage has one storey and an attic, with a three-window range that includes a 20th-century extension to the left of the gable end of the original range. There are flat stone arches above the 20th-century door and casement windows. Inside, notable features include a 17th-century chamfered beam and an open fireplace. The late medieval raised cruck structure has halvings for collars and spurs and is trenched for through purlins, although these have all been removed.
