Description
Numbers 54 (The Poppin), 55, and 56 are shops and dwellings built in the mid-18th century. Later alterations include a late 19th-century shop front to the left and a 20th-century shop front to the right. The building is constructed of grey brick with red brick dressings. The front roof is not visible, but the rear roof is covered with old plain tiles. It is three stories high with a three-window facade. A glazed double door is located in the center of the shop front on the right. A four-panel part-glazed door is situated to the right of the shop front on the left. The ground floor has plate glass windows. The first floor windows are 16-pane unhorned sashes with cambered brick heads, except for a French window with a wrought iron balcony on the left. The second floor has small horizontal sliding sashes. The ground floor interior has been altered in the 20th century. The building is included on the list for group value.
