Description

Nos. 1 and 3 London Road is a shop and dwelling, likely built in the mid-18th century and 19th century. The building features pebbledashed brick and limestone rubble, with roofs made of plain tiles and Welsh slate, along with brick stacks. It consists of two sections with a rear wing, standing three storeys and two storeys plus an attic.

The front of No. 1 has four windows and includes a second-floor storey band, cornice, and plain parapet, all rendered over. It has 4-light 19th-century sash windows, which are shorter on the second floor. The steep-pitched tiled roof has stacks on either side. No. 3, to the right, has a single-bay front that also features a band and is rendered, but is likely from the 19th century; it includes a canted bay window on the first floor. Its shallow-pitched roof is slated. There is a continuous 20th-century shop front.

At the rear, No. 1 has a rubble wall and a contemporary lower rear wing that extends to the left, featuring some leaded casements. There is a hipped-roofed stair projection at the angle of the two ranges. Inside, there is a dogleg stair that rises to the attic, with turned column balusters, moulded handrails that extend over rectangular newels, and closed strings that are moulded at the landings.
