Description
Claremont House is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling, dating from the early 19th century. The building features rendered walls and a Welsh-slate roof with rendered end stacks. It consists of a main range and a rear wing, standing three storeys high plus an attic. The front has three windows and includes a first-floor storey band, a cornice, and a plain parapet that curves around the flanking projections. The windows are 4-pane sashes, with the first-floor windows being taller than those on the second floor, all featuring scalloped blind cases. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front, an altered entry to an alleyway, and on the far right, an arched doorway with a six-panel door. The mansard roof includes three dormers, and the rear has additional sashes across four floors. Inside, the alleyway boasts a groined plaster vault, while the apsidal stair hall features a sweeping cantilevered stair that rises to the third floor, complete with a wreathed mahogany handrail and stick balusters.
