Description

This is an early 18th-century house, later altered in the late 18th and 20th centuries. It is now used as offices. The house is constructed of chequer brick with painted stone dressings and limestone rubble, and has a Welsh-slate roof with a brick stack. It has a double-depth plan.

The front of the building presents a symmetrical facade of five windows, with storeybands and a wooden dentil cornice. The ground floor is faced with painted rusticated stone, above which the facade is brick. The central doorway has a wide, plain architrave with a double-stepped keyblock and a flat canopy with a dentil cornice supported by scroll brackets. The doorway is flanked by tripartite sash windows, likely added in the late 18th century. The upper windows have four-pane sash windows from the 19th century, except for those in the outer bays which are blind and feature painted glazing bars. All windows have wedge lintels and projecting stone aprons. A large brick stack rises from the return wall on the left side. The hipped roof has two gables at the rear.

Inside, there is an open-well staircase with a moulded handrail, turned newels and balusters, and winders. A ground-floor room is panelled and features a moulded cornice and an arched display niche beside the corner fireplace. There is also a panelled room on the first floor with a moulded cornice. Part of the ground floor now connects directly to the sales area of the adjacent building at No. 3.
