Description
49 and 50 Market Square are two shops and dwellings dating from the late 18th century, with some parts possibly older. The building features rendered timber framing and has roofs made of Welsh slate and concrete plain tiles, with brick stacks at each end. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall.
Each front has a 12-pane sash window on the first floor and a 6-pane sash window on the second floor, along with bay shop windows at the ground floor. The bay window for No. 49 is likely from the 19th century. The right side of No. 49 has similar windows and 12-pane sashes at the ground floor, while the left side of No. 50 includes a 20th-century slate-roofed extension at the ground floor. The roof has two spans, with the rear roof being steeper and probably older. The interiors have not been inspected. This building forms a prominent group with No. 47, situated on an island site.
