Description
Nos. 5 and 6 Market Square is a house that has been converted into shops and offices, dating from the 17th century. The building is constructed of part-rendered limestone rubble and features a roof made of plain tiles and Welsh slate, with brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall, plus attics.
The front, which is rendered, has three windows and includes a wide wing that projects from the middle and right bays. This front is topped by two steep gables that have partly-renewed moulded and scalloped bargeboards, along with the remnants of finials. The first floor contains casement windows with configurations of two, two, and three lights, as well as a two-light window located in the left return wall of the wing. The gables feature tall, narrow offset windows. A large stack rises from the central ridge, and both front gables have smaller stacks. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts. The rear of the building is made of rubble and has a slate roof. The interior has not been inspected.
