Description

Poplars Cottage is a house, probably dating from the early 18th century. It is situated on the south side of Main Street, Moolington, and was originally shown on Ordnance Survey maps as Poplars Farm Cottage. The building features regular courses of brickwork and a thatched roof. It likely began as a single-unit dwelling. It is a single-storey house with an attic, and has a two-window range of 19th-century casement windows beneath eyebrow dormers. A 20th-century casement window is located on the ground floor to the right, set beneath a wooden lintel. A 20th-century door is positioned on the left-hand side, also under a wooden lintel. A brick stack is visible at the end of the building. A single-storey extension to the left also has a thatched roof. Inside, the room to the right of the entrance retains the remains of an open fireplace, featuring a bressumer and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The cottage was used as three separate dwellings during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
