Description
The Garden House, along with its attached walls and gatepier to the south, east, and west, is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a 19th-century extension. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone and features a stone slate roof. The original layout was a two-unit plan positioned at right angles to the road. The building stands two storeys high with an attic. The main facade has two bays and consists of a one-window range, featuring a leaded casement on the ground floor and three-light stone mullion windows on the first floor. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and kneelers.
There is a single-storey extension, likely from the 19th century, which includes a 20th-century door. The rear elevation displays a three-light stone mullion window with a transom on both the ground and first floors to the left, along with a 20th-century roof dormer in the attic. A lateral stack on the right side of the rear elevation has been partially rebuilt in brick. The gable on the right side of the main front features a two-light stone mullion window in the attic.
The walls attached to the south, east, and west are likely of late 17th-century origin and were restored in the 19th century, with two-stage buttresses. A section of the wall on the east side includes a truncated gatepier topped with a ball finial, enclosing part of the garden and connecting to the walls and gatepiers at Manor Farmhouse to the east and west. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to contain 17th-century panelling, a hall fireplace with a chamfered stone surround, a parlour fireplace with a four-centred arch-head and moulded stone surround, and a first-floor fireplace with a bolection-moulded wood surround.
