Description

Manor Farmhouse, built probably in the mid 17th century, was extended and remodelled in the mid 19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone with a plain tile roof. Originally a two-unit plan, the farmhouse now has an irregular U-shape. The main front has two storeys and an attic, with a gabled cross-wing projecting to the right. The front features a six-window range. Four, two-light stone mullion windows on the first floor to the left are likely 17th century, with hood moulds and square label stops. Other windows are one-, two-, and three-light 19th-century, some with stone mullions. A 19th-century pointed-head doorway is located to the right of centre. Ashlar gable parapets and kneelers are present. Brick and stone stacks are situated at the ridge, with a lateral stack rising from a gablet to the far right. Two bays to the right represent 19th-century additions, with evidence of a straight joint at the first floor between the two builds. The left gable has three 17th-century stone mullion windows with hood moulds and square label stops. A leaded casement window with a wood lintel is on the ground floor to the right. A projecting gabled wing to the right of centre on the rear elevation is likely 17th or 18th century, remodelled in the 19th century. A gabled cross-wing to the right is 19th century. All windows on the rear elevation have 19th-century stone mullions. A square-headed doorway with a chamfered stone surround is probably 17th century. A 20th-century single-storey extension sits between the projecting wings. A wall attached to the east of the main front has a built-up coping and a gateway with 20th-century gates and square piers with ball finials, likely of late 17th or early 18th century origin. A similar pair of gatepiers, with moulded cornices, are attached to the wall to the west, enclosing the front garden, along with a 20th-century gate. A section of wall attached to the far west has a similar, truncated, gatepier and encloses part of the garden of Garden House. Inside, a room to the right of the entrance hall has 18th-century bolection moulded panelling, which was reset from a first-floor room. The kitchen has chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The staircase is mid-19th century.
