Description

Caroline Cottage is a detached house, likely dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and an extension made in the late 18th century. The southern portion may have originally been a separate cottage. The walls are plastered, and the roof is thatched, with brick stacks located at the ends and centre of the building. The cottage is two storeys high. A brick porch with a shingled roof provides access through a 20th-century ledged door. On the ground floor, there are four casement windows with central glazing bars. The first floor has three similar windows. A 20th-century garage extension is situated on the north side, and a rear lean-to with a shingled roof has been added. Inside, the main ground floor room features a large open fireplace with a timber lintol and a bread oven. A simple plank and muntin partition is found on the first floor.
