Description
Lytchett Saint Mary is a detached house that was formerly a rectory. The original section, which now serves as service rooms, dates back to the early 18th century and was enlarged and altered in the early 19th century, reflecting a Regency style. The building features plastered walls, hipped slate roofs, and plastered stacks with moulded caps. It is two storeys high, with the main elevation slightly projecting at the centre.
A portico with four Tuscan columns supports an entablature and flat roof, leading to a panelled door flanked by double-hung sash windows. Above the portico, there are a pair of French doors with glazing bars set in raised plaster surrounds, flanked by shallow pilasters and a cornice. On either side of the central bay, each floor has two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. The earlier rear ranges are of similar construction but feature steeper pitched roofs with coped gables.
Internally, the 19th-century range includes main rooms with moulded cornices and some original joinery and fireplaces. There is a cut string stair with ornamental spandril brackets, while no visible internal features are present in the earlier ranges.
