Description

Ivy Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is timber-framed and rendered, with a thatched roof. The building has one and a half storeys and a two-cell plan. There are two internal chimney stacks with plain red brick shafts; one is located at the entrance lobby, while the other is positioned just within the frame at the right end. The cottage features two gabled dormers with plain tiled roofs and old two-light casement windows that have a single bar to the lights.

On the ground floor, there are two windows: on the left is a late 19th-century sash window in a flush frame with a single vertical bar to the lights, and on the right is a three-light casement window. The entrance door has four flush panels and is set in a plain surround with a projecting flat pediment that is bolection-moulded. There is another door with six raised fielded panels located at the extreme left of the front.

Inside, the cottage has plain light timbering exposed, with full-height studding and ceilings that feature joists set on edge, along with a small chamfer to the main beams. On the ground floor front, there is a blocked five-light original window with diamond mullions of very small sections, indicating a later date. The internal stack only heats the room to the left of it, which has an open fireplace with a plain timber lintel. The end stack is a later addition to heat the room on the right. It is likely that the building was once divided into two cottages.
