Description
Thenton and Grange Cottage are two houses located on the east side of Adderbury High Street. They likely date from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are constructed of coursed squared marlstone, partly rendered, and feature wooden lintels. They have a plain-tile roof with brick stacks.
Thenton, which is the house on the right, has a single-unit plan and a rendered front with two storeys and two windows. It includes a 5-panel door on the right and a pair of narrow sash windows on the left, along with 16-pane sash windows from the 19th century on the first floor. Grange Cottage, on the left, has a two-unit plan and features two 3-light casement windows from the 18th century on each floor, plus a central doorway. One of the ground-floor windows retains the surround of its original stone-mullioned predecessor. The buildings share a continuous steep-pitched roof with two stacks positioned at the rear of the ridge. The interiors have not been inspected. These houses are included for their group value.
