Description

Beggars Roost Corner Cottage is a pair of houses dating from the early to mid-18th century. The buildings are constructed from partly coursed and squared marlstone rubble, with some ashlar dressings and wooden lintels. They feature a concrete plain-tile roof with stone and brick stacks. The layout consists of two units, with two storeys plus an attic.

The front of Corner Cottage, which is on the left, has a two-window arrangement. It includes a six-panel door located to the left of centre, accessed by a flight of four semi-circular stone steps. To the right of the door is a large leaded three-light casement, and to the left is a smaller renewed casement, all featuring ashlar flat arches. The first floor has old three-light casements, with the one on the right positioned below a small gable. There is a small cellar window to the left of the steps, which has an arched stone head. The right bay of the building has uncoursed rubble walling above an ashlar plinth.

Beggars Roost, located to the right, has a pair of two-light casements on the first floor, along with a larger three-light casement and the entrance below, all with lintels. The continuous steep-pitched roof features a gable parapet on the left, with brick end stacks and a stone stack rising to the left of the second bay. At the rear of Beggars Roost, there is a long wing that ends with a gable parapet, which includes further casements and a garage entrance. The interiors have not been inspected.
