Description
Old Plough Cottage and Grange Cottage are two cottages that were originally a house and later an inn. They date from the mid-17th century and have had some additions and alterations over time. The structure is timber framed with painted brick infill and additional brickwork, topped with a slate roof featuring internal red brick end stacks. The building is one storey with an attic and appears to have two or three framed bays. The framing consists of square panels, with three panels from the cill to the wall-plate and long straight tension braces. There are 20th-century casement windows on the left and right sides, with three lights on the left and four lights on the right, as well as timber-framed gabled half-dormers with two lights on the left and four lights on the right. The entrance features two boarded doors, which are glazed at the top, sheltered by lean-to slate hoods. At the rear, there are two parallel painted brick additions that are at right angles to the main building. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The property was formerly known as Nos. 1 and 2, Grange Cottages.
