Description

Placketts is a house dating from the late 17th and early 18th century, with further construction in the 18th and 19th centuries, and a 20th-century extension. It is built of coursed squared marlstone with some wooden lintels, and has a Welsh-slate roof with brick gable stacks. Originally a two-unit central-stair plan, it has been extended. The front has a regular three-window arrangement. A small stone porch is positioned to the left of centre, with wavy bargeboards and a six-panel door. Leaded cross windows are present in the outer bays, along with a matching single-light transomed window above the porch; the ground-floor openings have stone flat arches. A steep-pitched roof has two renewed gabled dormers with wavy bargeboards. A lower, added bay to the right features a further entrance and a gable parapet. The rear of the main range displays two further cross windows at ground floor and a small 20th-century extension. A stone inscription “B/TE” is set into the front wall. Internally, there are chamfered beams, a large chimney breast with a late 18th/early 19th century wooden fireplace surround, a cupboard, and a contemporary cast-iron range.
