Description

HAWKHURST RYE ROAD TQ 7630-7730 (north side) 17/408 Milestone at 765 304 GV II Milestone. Late C18. Painted stone with brick C19 painted iron plate. About 2 feet high with rounded head, the plate inscribed: LONDON 48 RYE 14½. The plate damaged at base. The Kippings Cross and Flimwell Turnpike Trust was set up by an Act of 1761. A good series of milestones survive.
