Description

This milestone, located 50 meters southwest of Middle or Parkhill Lodge, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of painted stone and features a cast iron plate. The stone is rectangular with a rounded top and is painted white. The front of the milestone has a plate with raised black lettering indicating the distances to London (56 miles) and Winchester (8 miles). It is situated on the route of Popham Lane to the Winchester Turnpike, established in 1758.
