Description

Fothersby and Fothersby West is a house, now a pair of houses, dating from the 18th century and extended later. It features red and blue chequered brickwork, with some parts having tile-hung gables. The roof is plain tiled and the building has two storeys and an attic. It includes a plinth, a plat band, and a moulded wooden paired modillion eaves cornice at the roof, which has pedimented dormers, flush skylights, and chimney stacks located at the left end, centre right, and right.

To the right, there is a projecting gabled wing with a hipped two-storey porch extension in the re-entrant angle at the centre right. The windows are arranged regularly, with three glazing bar sashes on the first floor, a single glazing bar sash in the re-entrant porch, and a tripartite glazing bar sash with a single glazing bar sash above in the gabled wing. On the ground floor, there are two tripartite glazing bar sashes and one single sash, along with a half-glazed door at the centre set in a moulded surround with a flat hood on brackets. The re-entrant porch contains a panelled door with a moulded surround and a flat hood on brackets, and there is a single-storey ground floor extension to the right featuring a boarded door and plate windows. Additionally, there is a 19th-century oriel window on the left return and casement windows on the right return. The building has been significantly altered and restored in the mid-20th century.
