Description
The Lodge at Tongswood is a gate lodge built in the early 20th century. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar details and features a plain tiled roof. The building is designed in a free Baroque-revival style and is single storey with an attic. The roof is pediment-gabled and includes a central stack cluster and a dormer with a pediment that displays an Arms cartouche, along with a 5-light stone mullioned window.
On the ground floor, there is a 3-light mullioned and transomed window to the left, and to the right, there are ashlar, parapeted sections topped with obelisk finials, as well as a central arcade supported by Doric columns. The right return has a bracketed pentice roof with additional mullioned and transomed windows. At the rear, there is a single storey wing with a parget gable and end stack, featuring a canted bay with a raking roof and diamond-leaded windows. This lodge originally served as the main gate lodge for the Tongswood Estate.
