Description
Old Forge Cottage is a forge and cottage dated 1874, designed by architect Richard Norman Shaw for William Cotterill of Tongswood. The building features tile hanging on the first floor and red brick on the ground floor, with a weather-boarded rear wing. It has a plain tiled roof and stands two storeys high, with a jetty supported by heavy brackets. The roof is tall and steeply pitched, hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right, topped with a tall moulded stack on the left. On the first floor, there are two 4-light wooden casements, while the ground floor has large mullioned windows arranged around the left-hand corner. To the right, there is a boarded door, and to the left, a half-glazed door. The rear weather-boarded range is the forge building, which is now incorporated into the cottage.
