Description
The quadrant walls and gate piers at Tongswood Drive were built in the early 20th century and are designed in a Free Baroque revival style. They are constructed from red brick with ashlar details and feature cast or wrought iron railings. The stone gate piers are panelled and topped with a modillion cornice, which originally supported a ball-finial, though the ball is missing from the right-hand pier. The brick quadrant walls curve concavely to the left and right, with the cornice featuring semi-circular sweeps filled with spear-head rails and scrolled center panels, culminating in a pedimented central feature. The quadrants are finished with lower stone piers, and the walls extend approximately 10 yards to the right and about 40 yards to the left. The central iron carriage gate is currently missing. This structure once served as the main entrance to the Tongswood estate.
