Description

HAWKHURST RYE ROAD TQ 72 NE (north side) Fourthrows 12/415 Solomons - II House, C18 refronting of earlier core, extended 1843. Timber framed and clad with red and blue chequered brick and tile hung and rendered on first floors. Plain tiled roof. Two parallel ranges. Two storeys on plinth with roof half-hipped to left with stacks to end right and projecting at end left. Regular fenestration of 2 glazing bar sashes on each floor and central door of 6 raised and fielded panels with rectangular fanlight and moulded flat hood on brackets, the whole fenestra- tion composition set to left of facade. Rear wing of 1 storey and attic, with end stacks. Left return wall not bonded to front elevation. Interior: the front range preserves evidence of earlier, probably C17, frame, with gunstock jowls. Large C18 brick fireplace with chestnut chimney bressummer. Letter found in house dated 1843 details building of rear wing.
