Description
Old Swan Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, which has been altered and extended in the early 18th century and early 19th century. The building is timber framed and clad with red brick on the ground floor, featuring some sections in English bond, as well as later red and blue chequered brick, with the first floor tile hung. It has a plain tiled roof and an L-shaped plan. The house is two storeys high with an attic, featuring a half-hipped roof and a projecting half-hipped wing to the right. There are stacks located to the centre left and to the right, along with a hipped dormer on the left side.
On the first floor of the main range, there are two two-light wooden casements, while the ground floor to the left has a three-light window and a boarded door. The right-hand wing has two-light and three-light wooden casements on each floor, with a boarded door in the left re-entrant elevation. The rear elevation includes a tall brick stack and an early 19th-century lean-to that covers the original weather boarding.
Inside, the main range features a queen post roof with clasped purlins, stop-chamfered beams, a massive chimney bressummer, and wide oak floorboards. The projecting wing has a staggered purlin roof, old floorboards, cupboards, and an inglenook with a cambered spice cupboard.
